UFA at end of season, so no, won't be part of expansion draft. I'd imagine they will be selecting Raanta though.

Looks like Tampa is going to have an issue signing their RFA's Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat & Drouin. ($60 million already tied up in 14 players)

What if we took on Ryan Callahan's contract, but squeezed them for their 1st round pick? We have the cap space and Callahan is some what serviceable.

we'd have him for 3 more years. you can look at our cap situation. It doesn't look too bad really. Zacha HOPEFULLY will be deserving a nice raise, as he'll be a RFA in Callahan's last year. Other than him, more guys will be leaving than getting any big paydays. All the rookies next year will still be on their ELC.

I say go for it.. I think. maybe.

Has better numbers than Coreigh this year. Not blaming schneids because our defense is poop and he has nothing to play for, but you can make a statistical case for Kinkaid by all measures

Franchise players are going to be the Mark Schiefeles of this draft... those guys taken at 7 who are supposed to be taken at 13 because some of the scouts spot potential better than others.

Nobody sticks out that much in this draft other than Hischier. NJ's going to have to draft intelligently this one regardless of whether they're 2nd or 4th overall. Last year or year before was the one to make the fuss.

If NJ happens to have the chance to get Hischier, it's a no-brainer, but after that... with this draft class, the rankings would probably radically change by the time these players turned 20. This year is one of the best cases for raising the draft age because each of these guys are a mixed bag.

Cast them chicken bones...

Consensus 1 is Patrick (NHL ready), 2 Hischier (potential) and then maybe Viliardi or Mittelstadt... but they go as low as 5 or 6... so who knows?

Reading up on these guys... I'd probably put them in this order:

1. Hischier
2. Mittelstadt (looks like he's gonna be good, but American factor)
3. Patrick (injury prone? limited ceiling?)
4. Vilardi (good in most stats categories, but injury prone?)
5. ????

* American factor is NJ Devil equivalent to Russian factor. Americans tend to sign elsewhere when their contracts are up.

I assumed we'd trade down. Unless we land in top 3 picks, they should move back to pick a D-man in the 8-12 range. We don't need one of those forwards ranked between 3-8
